Behind the scenes of my Berlin residency
I’m back in NYC after six weeks in Berlin. I had a really great time in Berlin. The residency was fun but I’m not sure I’d do another one with the same set up again. It turns out after a few weeks I wasn’t so enamoured with living in the space I was working in and then going to show in. Distance between work and normal life (or just sleep) is good for me. Here in New York I walk about 20 mins to my studio each day and in that time I mentally prepare for what I’m going to do when I arrive. In Berlin, whilst I enjoyed coming back to the gallery a little tipsy and then working on a painting into the small hours it ultimately wasn’t the healthiest way to go (no surprise) - especially when the gallery staff would arrive early the next morning.
Anyway for those who are curious I made a short (or extremely long by today’s ADD standards) video lecture about my residency, what I did there, what I made and why I made it.
You can settle down with a snack and a drink and watch it at the link below. Students and teachers might especially enjoy the insight.

For those who cannot be bothered to click the link, here’s a selection of images from my residency with no explanation. Berlin is truly beautiful in the dying days of the summer.
Cheers x
